A series of BMX, skateboard and scooter coaching sessions were recently held in Paraburdoo and Tom Price as part of the Stand Up! Against Bullying initiative.  Facilitated by ‘Freestyle Now’ and hosted by the Tom Price Youth Support Association (TPYSA), Rio Tinto and the Shire of Ashburton, the sessions were a proactive way to bring youth together to strengthen the anti-bullying message.

Skate workshops support STAND UP Against Bullying Campaign

The Freestyle Now squad, Ben Thomas, Dylan Reese and Shaun Jarvis were popular with the kids and in addition to running some fun competitions, spent time with the young riders offering them coaching advice on mastering new tricks.  Shaun also encouraged participants to STAND UP to bullying behaviour and gave some background examples of the bullying that he had experienced when he was younger.  His message was clear.  Bullying is unacceptable and we all need to find the courage to stand up for others – those who stand by and do nothing, are just as bad.  The TPYSA were very heartened by the support offered by Freestyle Now to the ‘STAND UP Against Bullying’ Campaign and appreciated the strong anti bullying messages that the team conveyed to our youth.  The TPYSA also had music playing and kept everyone fed and hydrated with a BBQ and plenty of water.

The Stand Up Against Bullying campaign was recently launched in Tom Price, and will be presented in Paraburdoo at a morning tea on Wednesday 27 June 2018 at 10.30am at the Paraburdoo Youth Centre.   All community welcome!!  The aim of the campaign is to make Tom Price and Paraburdoo vibrant and resilient communities, where the occurrence of bullying behavior is reduced and everyone feels accepted and included.   The campaign has received tremendous support from local stakeholders, who together are committed to empowering young residents to stand up against bullying.
